Electronics Certified Professional |
www.mecp.org
MECP was developed in 1991 by 12-volt industry volunteers
- installers, manufacturers, retailers and others, to
allow installers to demonstrate their professionalism
by passing a comprehensive written exam. MECP is the only
industry supported, nationally recognized certification
program for 12-volt installers.
There are three levels of MECP certification for installers:
Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Bronze level, or Basic Installer
certification, tests on 12-volt electronics, installation
technique, shop safety and mobile electronics components.
The Silver certification, which includes First Class Installer,
Security Specialist and Autosound Specialist, requires
technicians to have at least one year of retail installation
experience. The Silver-level exam tests on advanced 12-volt
electronics, autosound and security installation and troubleshooting.
The Gold level, or Master Installer certification, is
our most advanced exam, with fewer than 100 installers
currently holding Master certification. The Master-level
exam covers advanced electronics theory, advanced autosound,
advanced security and advanced troubleshooting. Installers
must have at least three years of retail installation
experience and must have passed the Silver-level exam
to take the test for the Master certification.
MECP is the only nationally recognized dealer certification
program within the mobile electronics industry.
Kris
Bulla has a Silver MECP certification including First
Class Installer and Security Specialist. |

| Automotive
Service Excellence |
www.asecert.org
Until the early 1970's,
consumers had no way to distinguish between incompetent
and competent mechanics. In response to this need, the
independent, non-profit National Institute for Automotive
Service Excellence (ASE) was established in 1972.
ASE's mission is to improve the quality of vehicle repair
and service through the testing and certification of repair
and service professionals.
At present there are about 415,000
professionals with current certifications. They work
in every segment of the automotive service industry:
car and truck dealerships, independent garages, fleets,
service stations, franchises, and more.
Upon passing at least one exam
and after providing proof of two years of relevant work
experience, the test taker becomes ASE certified. Certification,
however, is not for life. To remain certified, those
with ASE credentials must be retested every five years.
Kris
Bulla is ASE A6 and M6 certified.
